Manicures were given from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Atrium at Stamp Student Union.
Supporters could preregister, and also had to opportunity to walk in and receive a manicure. Students have also been buying the American Apparel t-shirts with pink designs for the past month and wearing them around campus.

Students from American Beauty Academy, one of the event’s sponsors, gave the manicures. They had two instructors there with them, so they were able to practice giving manicures while simultaneously supporting breast cancer awareness month.
Other sponsors of the event include OPI Nail Lacquer, Essie, and AEPhi.
“It’s amazing to see how passionate people get about it. It’s really great to see how enthusiastic people are to help,” junior jewish studies and nursing major Laurie Hunt said.
Sharsheret is a nonprofit organization that gives support and various resources to Jewish women battling breast cancers and their families.
The organization has responded to over 25,000 breast cancer inquiries since it was founded in 2001, according to the Sharsharet website.
“Sharsheret is a huge resource for a lot of women. It is a wonderful organization that helps women all over America. We raise money to help their efforts because there is such a high percentage of Jewish women who have breast cancer,” Heshe & Harriet Seif JLIC/ Hillel Educator on Campus Shira Neuman said.
Neuman is a staff member of Hillel, and runs the Women’s Social Empowerment Initiative on campus.
A big part of the initiative is to run events that are empowering, and to discuss the concerns that women have about things that matter to them, Neuman said.
Women’s Social Empowerment creates a variety of powerful events, including ManiCURE, Women’s Shabbat, and many more.
