Year/ Major:
Andrew Podob: Senior/government and politics
Tova Rosenthal: Freshman/psychology
Describe how you were feeling before the date:
Andrew: I wouldn’t say I was nervous, but I was obviously unsure who I was going to meet. I had a fear that I was going to already know the person. But I hadn’t even seen her at Hillel before even though we both go every week. I was worried I wouldn’t find her because I didn’t know who I was looking for. I got there a few minutes early, and I did see her sit down a couple of tables away so a couple of minutes later she came up to me and asked if I was waiting for her.
Tova: I was excited. I knew it was going to be fun.
What was your first impression of your date:
A: She was very nice. It was a relief to see someone that I didn’t know or know of.
T: He was friendly. One of the first things he told me was how his grandmother managed to eat two huge scoops of ice cream from the Dairy.
What did you both have in common?
A: We both do a lot at Hillel. We both like ice cream. We like jokes, especially Jewish-related. She’s a psychology major, and I enjoy psychology, so we talked about that.
T: He told me about his Hillel involvement. I was surprised I had never seen him there before.
Were there any awkward moments?
A: None come to mind, but there must have been a few. I always say, ‘it’s only awkward if you make it awkward.’
T: Not so much.
What is the one thing that you find most interesting about your date?
A: She’s from Maryland but she knows a lot of the towns in New Jersey, near where I live.
T: He did a semester abroad last year and now he’s doing a Capitol Hill internship. He takes advantage of cool opportunities.
Any future plans?
A: We’ll certainly see each other at Hillel.
T: We’ll see each other at Hillel. During the date, we were interviewed by someone in the journalism school, so we’ll be appearing together as celebrities.
Rate the date 1-10 and explain why:
A: I would give it an 8 because I thought it went well but our time was cut short because I had to run to class. I see a friendship coming out of it.
T: I would give it a 9. It was a fun night, and I got to know someone I might not have otherwise met.
